At Cudham CE Primary School, we give our children the chance to develop the skills and mindset of a confident, thoughtful designer. We encourage pupils to explore design and technology - to think about construction and planning, and to imagine, build, test and improve a variety of creations.

In our DT lessons and through practical, hands-on work, pupils are supported to handle different materials, understand their properties and learn how to use tools, equipment and resources safely and appropriately. We teach that careful measuring, precision and thoughtful planning matter - but also value creativity, problem-solving and resourcefulness.

Where appropriate, we also look beyond the classroom: making use of our natural surroundings and outdoor–learning ethos to enrich DT and practical work. In this way, children learn not only technical skills, but also collaboration, independence, patience, problem-solving and a respect for materials and the environment - qualities that will serve them both now and in the future
